PURCHASE OF SHELLFISH OR FINFISH; PENALTY (§ 28.2-244)

A person shall not purchase shellfish or finfish from any fisherman who is known
by such person to have not registered as a commercial fisherman as required by
§ 28.2-241. Whenever a court finds that a defendant has violated the provisions
of this section, the court shall assess a civil penalty of $ 500. All civil
penalties assessed pursuant to this section shall be paid into the Marine
Fishing Improvement Fund as established in § 28.2-208.
