Chapters 1209 and 1211.\n\n“Adverse action” means any administrative, civil, equitable, or\ncriminal action permitted by a state’s laws that is imposed by a licensing\nboard or other authority against an audiologist or speech-language pathologist,\nincluding actions against an individual’s license or privilege to\npractice, such as revocation, suspension, probation, monitoring of the licensee,\nor restriction on the licensee’s practice.\n\n“Alternative program” means a nondisciplinary monitoring process\napproved by an audiology or speech-language pathology licensing board to address\nimpaired practitioners.\n\n“Audiologist” means an individual who is licensed by a state to\npractice audiology.\n\n“Audiology” means the care and services provided by a licensed\naudiologist as set forth in the member state’s statutes and rules.\n\n“Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Compact Commission” or\n“Commission” means the national administrative body whose membership\nconsists of all states that have enacted the Compact.\n\n“Audiology and speech-language pathology licensing board,”\n“audiology licensing board,” “speech-language pathology\nlicensing board,” or “licensing board” means the agency of a\nstate that is responsible for the licensing and regulation of audiologists\nand\/or speech-language pathologists.\n\n“Compact privilege” means the authorization granted by a remote\nstate to allow a licensee from another member state to practice as an\naudiologist or speech-language pathologist in the remote state under its laws\nand rules. The practice of audiology or speech-language pathology occurs in the\nmember state where the patient\/client\/student is located at the time of the\npatient\/client\/student encounter.\n\n“Current significant investigative information” means investigative\ninformation that a licensing board, after an inquiry or investigation that\nincludes notification and an opportunity for the audiologist or speech-language\npathologist to respond, if required by state law, has reason to believe is not\ngroundless and, if proved true, would indicate more than a minor infraction.\n\n“Data system” means a repository of information about licensees,\nincluding, but not limited to, continuing education, examination, licensure,\ninvestigative, compact privilege, and adverse action.\n\n“Encumbered license” means a license in which an adverse action\nrestricts the practice of audiology or speech-language pathology by the licensee\nand said adverse action has been reported to the National Practitioners Data\nBank (NPDB).\n\n“Executive Committee” means a group of directors elected or\nappointed to act on behalf of, and within the powers granted to them by, the\nCommission.\n\n“Home state” means the member state that is the licensee’s\nprimary state of residence.\n\n“Impaired practitioner” means individuals whose professional\npractice is adversely affected by substance abuse, addiction, or other\nhealth-related conditions.\n\n“Licensee” means an individual who currently holds an authorization\nfrom the state licensing board to practice as an audiologist or speech-language\npathologist.\n\n“Member state” means a state that has enacted the Compact.\n\n“Privilege to practice” means a legal authorization permitting the\npractice of audiology or speech-language pathology in a remote state.\n\n“Remote state” means a member state other than the home state where\na licensee is exercising or seeking to exercise the compact privilege.\n\n“Rule” means a regulation, principle, or directive promulgated by\nthe Commission that has the force of law.\n\n“Single-state license” means an audiology or speech-language\npathology license issued by a member state that authorizes practice only within\nthe issuing state and does not include a privilege to practice in any other\nmember state.\n\n“Speech-language pathologist” means an individual who is licensed by\na state to practice speech-language pathology.\n\n“Speech-language pathology” means the care and services provided by\na licensed speech-language pathologist as set forth in the member state’s\nstatutes and rules.\n\n“State” means any state, commonwealth, district, or territory of the\nUnited States of America that regulates the practice of audiology and\nspeech-language pathology.\n\n“State practice laws” means a member state’s laws, rules, and\nregulations that govern the practice of audiology or speech-language pathology,\ndefine the scope of audiology or speech-language pathology practice, and create\nthe methods and grounds for imposing discipline.\n\n“Telehealth” means the application of telecommunication technology\nto deliver audiology or speech-language pathology services at a distance for\nassessment, intervention, and\/or consultation.\n\nHISTORY: 2023, c. 337.","edition":{"id":2,"name":"2026","slug":"2026","date_created":"2026-07-16 18:40:23","date_modified":"2026-08-02 15:14:36","current":1,"order_by":2,"last_import":"2026-08-02 12:37:30"}}
