§ 1-600 (For contingent effective date, see Acts 2025, cc. 91 and 109, cl. 2) Virginia coordinate systems designated
The systems of plane coordinates that have been established by the National Ocean Service/National Geodetic Survey or its successors for defining and stating the positions or locations of points on the surface of the earth within the Commonwealth are to be known and designated as the “Virginia Coordinate System of 1927,” the “Virginia Coordinate System of 1983,” and the “Virginia Coordinate System of 2022.”

This law was first created in 1946. The record of its establishment is cataloged at page 166 of that year’s edition of “Acts of Assembly,” the annual state publication listing all changes made to the Code of Virginia in that year. Unfortunately, the 1946 “Acts” aren’t available online. It has been modified 5 times. Those modifications are cataloged by “The Acts of Assembly,” a state publication, by year and chapter. Those modifications that can be read on the General Assembly’s website will be linked accordingly. Those modifications are as follows: in 1946, when it was recodified as § 2849(1); in 1950, when it was recodified as § 55-287; in 1984, chapter 726; in 2019, chapter 712; in 2025, chapters 91 and 109.
